Affirmations
The first time I came across (a form of) affirmations, I was rather unclear about what they were and why I enjoyed them so much. I have since learned that affirmations are a form of positive affirmation. When I was working a desk job in 2015, we had a small calendar that hung on the wall in front of the main computer. Every day, we would rip off the page of the previous day to expose the current date and a statement that was relevant to the day. There was something thought-provoking to reflect on every day of the calendar; there were moments when I did not connect with it and other times when it seemed intended specifically for me.
So, tell me, what exactly is an affirmation? The word's origin is similar to the "ad firm." The prefix "ad-" means "toward" or "towards," and the suffix "-firm" means "strong" or "stable." As a whole, it is referred to as an "assertion that something is true."
When you find yourself having negative thoughts, the first and perhaps most crucial step is to become conscious of those thoughts. Perhaps you could find something positive about it and then choose an affirmation to help you change your ideas. This will allow you to rethink what you believe and quite literally remodel the neural pathways in your brain. Neuroplasticity refers to the ability of our brains to make new synaptic connections and remodel existing ones in response to new experiences, such as learning or taking drugs.
Now…. to make your own affirmation!
1) Pull out a pen and paper.
2) Write down 3 things you are thankful for within the last 24 hours.
3) You have AFFIRMED that something is true for you! Repeat the 3 things you wrote down in your head (or out loud).
When you repeat positive statements to yourself, you focus your attention and energy on the words themselves. When you confirm something to yourself in a conscious manner, you are exercising conscious control over your subconscious. for you to produce something pleasurable. You can choose to think positively or negatively about things at any moment.
You may keep a notebook in which you record the things for which you are grateful, write in it daily, and then observe how your level of appreciation increases. You might make up your mind to purchase a calendar with quotations for each day; there are some lovely ones available, as well as those with colorful language, depending on how you're feeling:) Pulling up a quotation of the day and checking in with the word to see whether it resonates with me is one of my favorite things to do because it does not cost anything and does not take up any time.
If this concept strikes a chord with you, I would like to extend an invitation to try it out the next month. The brain does not automatically rewire itself overnight. We will attempt to alter our negative patterns of thinking and speaking into positive ones as we learn more about ourselves and our thoughts as we deliberate efforts to learn more about ourselves and our thought patterns.
